Regarding the desert, Oman offers two main destinations. In the North, Bidiya desert, which is ideal for camping and enjoying the silence, camel riding or dune bashing.
In the South, the Empty Quarter, which is a desert that spreads over an important part of the Arabic Peninsula (Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman and the Emirates). It got its name from its hyper arid nature which made it, for centuries, a very risky area to cross. The legends surrounding the Empty Quarter made it an interesting ingredient to feature in modern pop culture works (movies, video games,…). Nowadays, some trips are organized regularly for the most adventurous visitors.
